Chapter 9 - To the Tower

The Customs House is the tenth chapter of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Plot synopsis

Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher move through the customs house, a large harbor building that all cargo onto the island must have passed through. Nate and Elena enter a room containing ship manifests, and stop to study one that has been left open on a table in the center of the room. It details the Esperanza, which sailed from Callao, Peru, carrying a gold statue weighing 20 arrobas (500 pounds). The next page has a detailed drawing of the statue, labeled El Dorado. That is the last entry, and the following pages are blank.

Elena points out the ring Nate has around his neck, asking if it's "somebody special." He tells her that it belonged to Francis Drake, and points out its inscriptions: Francis Drake's motto, "Sic Parvis Magna" (greatness from small beginnings), as well as the date the ring was made, the 29th of January 1596, the day after Drake supposedly died. Beside these are co-ordinates, leading to the spot off the coast of Panama where his coffin was recovered. Drake tears the El Dorado page out of the log and says that it's the closest to El Dorado that they're getting.

They continue on towards the boat, and Elena suggests that they separate so that she can film more of the island, while Nate gets the boat and comes back to pick her up. Nate agrees, and moves onward, entering a large domed building. As he enters, a helicopter flies overhead, and he points out that Eddy's pirates don't have helicopters. The door that he entered through slams shut behind him.
