The Istanbul Palace Museum is a location in Among Thieves, located along the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey. It appears during the second chapter, "Breaking and Entering".

History[]

Night at the Museum 1

The thieves break in through the sewers.

In the past, Nathan Drake and two other unknown individuals had infiltrated and attempted to steal from the Museum, but their mission failed, with only Drake managing to barely escape. The remaining two were assumed captured, with the opening of Among Thieves heavily implying that they were killed. During the events of Among Thieves, he attempted the heist again with Harry Flynn and Chloe Frazer in a bid to steal the secret contents from a Mongolian oil lamp previously owned by Marco Polo. The team arrived in the dead of night, entering the sewers through a grating, and from there, they parted ways, with Chloe taking her own path to disable the floodlights covering the exhibit hall, while Drake and Flynn going on another route together to get into the museum grounds.

The latter two made their way from the sewers into a boiler room, and from there, into a supply room after which they managed to enter into a courtyard. From there they made their way to another courtyard and onto the rooftops, knocking out and tranquilizing several of the museum guards along the way. They finally managed to reach the exhibit hall and the oil lamp within, only to discover that it only contained some resin and a blank scroll.

Doublecrossed 1

Nate reads Marco Polo's hidden message.

Drake realized, however, that resin could burn, and with the blue flames' light, they revealed hidden information about Marco Polo's lost ships, as well as the location of the Cintamani Stone. At this point Flynn betrayed Drake, triggering the alarm and leaving him to deal with the guards that rushed to the scene. Drake himself managed to barely escape into the sewers, eventually reaching the streets, where he was unfortunately captured at gunpoint by the Turkish police.

Geography[]

The Palace Museum is a large building complex atop a cliff situated along the Bosphorus coast. Technically a former palace repurposed as a museum, other than the exhibit hall featuring Marco Polo, no public areas are ever seen. The main areas seen are several of the inner courtyards, as well as many of the rooftops connecting the two. The only other areas are a boiler room, two storage rooms, and the massive underground sewers. Despite being in Turkey, the palace's architectural design does not culturally belong to that of Turkish architecture. Rather, the various design elements fit more in-line with classical Islamic architectural elements.

The courtyards vary wildly in size, although they always contain numerous flower planters, with tall gateways often blocked by portcullises. Most also feature balconies and upper walkways, above which are the traversable rooftops. Both the upper paths and rooftops are often upheld by stone pillars. The largest courtyard contains an ornamental fountain as well.

The 'Marco Polo Exhibit' is inside a large tower on the museum premises, lit by several large floodlights. It can be entered from two passages, both of which contain modern metal gates to lock intruders in or out. The hall itself contains a collection of artifacts belonging to Marco Polo, stored in glass cases spread around the center of the room.

Multiplayer[]

The museum location was adapted into a multiplayer map called The Museum, which was available as part of the Siege Expansion Pack. It reappeared again as the multiplayer map Museum in Drake's Deception.
