Hi Klock! I have something I have to ask. Recently, some people over at Wikia decided to appoint me admin of the Journey Wiki, since it lacked any sort of organization and leadership. The problem is that I have no idea how to edit and fix certain things for the wiki. Do you know how to remove categories from the topics bar on the top, or how to find the 'special' page (because apparently I can acess something like that...except Ihave no idea how to get to it -_-)?
Sure. Wikia are bringing out new features every few weeks, so it's becoming a damn pain to keep track of all the special pages and stuff like that. Here's some info that should help you out (apologies if you know some or all of it already):
Special Pages - These are maintenance pages for your wiki. They are mostly lists, consisting of stuff like unused photos, uncategorised articles etc. They're also used for image uploading, and blocking editors. You can find a list of all the special pages on the Journey Wiki here.
MediaWiki Pages - You mentioned changing the categories in the topics bar up top. This doesn't involve a special page; instead it uses a MediaWiki page. These pages allow you to edit things like menus, JavaScript, and css.
Editing the topics bar is done on a page called "MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation". To get to it, open up the dropdown menu from the "Contribute" button to the right of the topics bar and click the "Edit Wiki Navigation" option. This will bring you to the page where you can edit the bar. Alternatively, here's a link.
Editing the bar is similar to editing any other page, although you don't have to put the [[ ]] brackets around links. You should have a look at the one here to see how the text on the page matches up to what's displayed in the bar.
Basically, the text you put on the page should follow this pattern:
Journey Text with a bullet point will appear as a tab on the top of the bar
Trophies Text with a double indented bullet point will appear in the lower bar beneath the tab
List of trophies Triple indented bullet point text will form the dropdown menu options that appear when you hover your mouse over an item in the bar.
I hope this helps. If you have any more questions about this, or anything else, just ask.
Thank you Klock! This definitly helped me out with some of my major wiki cleanup tasks (I'm trying to organize the darn thing, since everything is basically hashed together)!
